Soccer Mom: I take the role of soccer mom seriously. My daughter played soccer from age 4 to 18, including playing club soccer (aka very expensive competitive travel soccer) during middle and high school. After she started college I started to say I was recovering. But you never recover if you are still rabid about attending soccer matches in the cold.
I’m not just a soccer mom, but also a hyper-local elected official. When I was campaigning one opponent liked to trash talk, not to my face, that I was just a soccer mom. So I started to wear my USWNT jersey on the campaign trail.
Oh…and I won. Big.

This weekend in women’s sports
It’s a big weekend, y’all! This is why I bullet journal. I love planning.
Friday: The WNBA expansion draft is happening! It’s time for the Tempo and Fire to start building their teams.
And the Chicago Sky said, “Not with our players.” On April Fool’s Day.
I know this is a women’s sports newsletter, but let me say that I’ve seen some bad sports moves cause I’m a Cubs fan, but this. This is a new low. We moved DOWN the WNBA draft to protect players that helped us end the 2025 season 10-34. To protect two players.
FINAL FOUR FRIDAY: Cancel your plans, unless they included heading to Whiskey Girl Tavern or Babe’s to watch South Carolina vs UCONN at 6 pm and then Texas vs UCLA at 8:30 pm. Or maybe you didn’t have plans and now you do.
I’ve never wanted to be in Phoenix so bad.
Second screens needed: Because the NWSL has FOUR matches on Friday, including our Chicago Stars at 8 pm from Utah. You can watch for free on Victory+.
Again, why we need women’s sports bars.
There are also matches on Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday is for sacks: The Chicago Winds are playing an away game on Saturday, but you can catch their games for free on Victory+.
SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY!: The Women’s NCAA Tourney final is at 2:30 PM.
Who you got winning it all? I picked UCONN for my bracket, but now I’m not so sure. All four teams are possible champs. It’s gonna be a wild Friday and Sunday.
Our Teams in Pre-Season
It’s still pre-season for the Chicago Tempest and Chicago Bandits
Chicago Tempest: Their opening game is Saturday, May 2nd at Benedictine College. Get your tickets or level up with season tickets. I already have my hoodie.
Chicago Bandits: The return of the Bandits is not until June 9th, with their first home game the 13th, but you can start planning the group outing now.

One of our moms took this photo. Faces blurred cause I don’t have their permission to use their images here. If you are in this photo and reading this, “HIIII!”
That’s me on the JV softball team my sophomore year of high school. I played third base. At some point in the season we found a doll head and she became our mascot. This was also the peak of my 12” softball career as I didn’t make varsity. The peak of my 16” softball career was making the All-Star team in 2021. Sadly I had COVID so had to miss that game.
Thank you to Rachel, Karen, and Cindy for becoming members of this newsletter. Also a shout out to Katrina, Alan, and Joie who have been supporting of my writing and helped me get to this point.
While this newsletter and the larger project of supporting women’s sports is my passion project, I still need to buy groceries and put gas in my vehicles (I have a purple sparkly moped scooter and a 2015 Prius C, perfect for squeezing into tiny parking spots).
An additional way to support this newsletter is to subscribe, share on socials, and forward to your friend who keeps inviting you to women’s sporting events.
